Before I feel comfortable posting to the UP4 feedback thread I thought I'd ask some questions about my experience testing it:
On a spare desktop I installed the lmde xfce 64 image, then immediately (before updating) changed sources to
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/incoming/multimedia testing main non-free
I then update/upgraded which resulted in lots of pkgs held back, so I did dist-upgrade. After THAT I did update/upgrade and still had a bunch of pkgs held back so I did another dist-upgrade, found that had to do that one or two times more before I stopped getting update notifications or held back packages
I THEN discovered that I had commented out: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import so I un-commented and made sure I was up to date.
1) is that (the above; having to do multiple dist upgrades) expected or a result of my derp?
I lost my ability to tab complete in terminal. Because I like zsh (coupled with oh-my-zsh) I went and grabbed that, which led me (because of some keyring issues "WARNING: gnome-keyring:: couldn't connect to: /tmp/keyring-fOclPy/pkcs11: No such file or directory") to manually grab packages from xfce4. Issue resolved; zsh and tab complete now work as expected.
2)Is the loss of tab-completion just a mess-up on my part, or could it be an issue with UP4/Is it worth mentioning in the UP4 feedback thread?
I'm thinking of doing a clean re-install then grabbing UP4 again on that machine so I can get a better sense of the whole process -it's not my main PC and I can afford to play a bit with it.
3)What would be the ideal way to go about the upgrade (should I again update directly from UP2 as I did above)?
What should I be looking for/noting to best give feedback about issues.
I'm not yet willing to update my main machine to UP4 because of a few issues I think will crop up due to some wonky settings/work-arounds I've done on my main laptop but I'd like to be able to offer some constructive feedback if I can.
FWIW: If I were switching to lmde for the first time (or if I wanted lmde on a new, main, pc) I'd definitely add UP4 in it's current state -but as I mentioned I've got too many customizations/workarounds on this thing to want to do it now.
