Demonstrate in your home folder: Shift-Tab until the Side Pane is selected. Navigate to any place (like File System) using Up/DnArrow. Press ENTER and that location should open. Double-Clicking works fine, ENTER does not.
This is new - I never saw this in Nautilus up to 2.30. Searched for anyone else reporting this... so I realize I may be the only one in the world that navigates Caja/Nautilus by keyboard.
Been doing this for many years.
