Going Back to Gnome 2 from Gnome 3?

Postby WhatUsernameIsFree? on Sun May 06, 2012 6:31 am

Hi all,

I've got a load of problems which have only been around since I upgraded to Gnome 3 and these issues seem unresolvable. How can I go back to Gnome 2, where I had none of these issues?

Thanks

Gnome 2 is dead upstream. You would need to either install and older version of LMDE (if such a things exists) or install Debian Stable. Even on Debian Stable it would only be supported for another year after Wheezy gets released, so figure roughly another 18 months then it will be completely without support of any kind.

Have you tried using MATE?
Debian Sid KDE4.8.4 Kernel 3.4 Thinkpad R40 CPU Pentium M 1.3MHz RAM 2GB ATI Mobility 7500
Debian - "If you can't apt-get something, it isn't useful or doesn't exist"
Giant Debian sources.list | Debian upgrade script smxi | sysinfo script inxi

Hi,

Yeah tried MATE on a different computer but the issue is with all the 'little' programs, like the one that remembers SSH passwords, the one that deals with printers and the one that deals with shutting down. Everything used to work perfectly in LMDE and I upgraded and I now have lots of issues and no one can help me with them. I think MATE causes the same problems with a look different?
