Small Download Speed Issue

Postby japan1 on Tue May 08, 2012 4:51 pm

Evening all,

I've just installed the most recent snapshot of LMDE and I'm enjoying using it, aside from one minor niggle.

Whenever trying to download any file, be it an update or a program, the download speeds are very low - always < 50KB/s (see image below).

I've tried changing the "Download from" setting in Synaptic, but regardless of the server, download speeds are dire. I've troubleshooted my network, and it's capable of constant 50Mb/s down and 5Mb/s up +/- 10%, so that's not the issue. I've also tried using Ubuntu - which has no problem utilizing my connection when download software/updates which makes me believe the problem is a) LMDE mirrors or b) something on my LMDE install.

Here's a screenshot of my update in Synaptic - not entirely sure these "fails" relate to it?

And here is my /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://mirror.devnu11.net/linuxmint/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/security testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest/multimedia testing main non-free

Any help would be appreciated!

regarding the first question:
- you already changed mirror for packages.linuxmint; debian.linuxmint has mirrors here http://www.linuxmint.com/mirrors.php (near the end of the page); just make sure when you add the mirror, you navigate (with the browser) to update-pack-info.txt and see there 4 >> like this http://mirror.learn.ac.lk/linuxmint-deb ... k-info.txt (it's the UP currently available, and before the next one you should check the same to see if the mirror is already updated)
