Latin + Hangul filename arrangement issues

Postby rokkugo on Thu May 10, 2012 9:55 pm

This is a very silly problem but it is irritating me. I can't explain it so well so I have a screenshot (click if you need to see it larger). I'm running LMDE 32-bit with the MATE desktop.

My files are arranged by name. These three files that I highlighted should all be together, right? They're music files by the Korean artist, 잠비나이 (Jambinai). They're all named the same way, 잠비나이 - Song Name. But apparently it's unacceptable that two of them have names in Korean, and one in English because they're not together in a row in the folder. If I change the 잠비나이 - Grace Kelly track to, say, 잠비나이 - 잠비나이, it magically moves with the other two 잠비나이 files. But it cannot be with the other two while being named 잠비나이 - Grace Kelly. This is very baffling behavior and I'd love to know what I can do to fix it, without changing the filenames. I don't want to Romanize the Hangul if I don't have to (or vice versa). :P

Well, how have you sorted it? Edit -> Preferences -> Views -> Arrange items

I don't know how other File Managers or even distributions behave but it could be that they also just ignore special Asian writing systems.
My Linux history: Ubuntu 10.04 - 10.10 - LMDE 201109 - UP4 My sources.list/preferences

Computers is not science. And it's not magic - it's something in between.
