1. I just installed LMDE and it's great but I do not know which window manager I am looking at. Is it Gnome or KDE or what?

2. Even though I am on a desktop computer my display fades and goes black after 10 minutes or so just like a laptop to save power. I can find no "power settings" anywhere on any menu in this OS. I'd like to select "never" for "going to sleep" and so on. Anyone know what I am missing?

regarding the rest (and the power setting options will be on different places) can you provide us a screenshot (it's the easiest way to identify the DE)

I just found in the instructions a bit with which I can revert to Gnome window manager so that is what I will do because I am more comfortable with it than some new kind. I still wonder where the power settings are if anyone knows. Also any other linux I've ever used had provision for setting the number of desktops with a display on the panel. I can't find anything like this on Mint either. Any hints about this?
