Root PWD, Mint 12 DE, USB

Postby scriptham on Thu Jul 19, 2012 6:24 pm

Hi

I just installed Linux Mint 12 Debian Edition to USB using MS windows and UnetBootin.
When I boot a pc from the usb it runs satisfactorily, but it is quite obvious there are several issues to sort out.

I have 2 immediate problems.
1) Don't know the root PWD. I certainly didn't set one. I certainly wasn't asked for one.
2) When I load a terminal and type.
sudo passwd
followed by enter.
The terminal responds with
[sudo] password for mint:
But nothing that I type at the prompt shows on screen. When I press a key the cursor stops blinking, when I release the key it blinks again and nothing more.
Any ideas please?
Thanks

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Did you install Linux Mint 12 or Linux Mint Debian Edition(LMDE)? There isn't a Linux Mint 12 Debian edition.

That said I haven't used LMDE so I don't know about it, but with the main edition when you install the password for the default user is the root password.

Not sure about the version now.

In a terminal
Code: Select all
cat /etc/*release
