Replacing Linux Mint repos with debian.org repos?

Postby Absolette on Tue Jul 24, 2012 6:00 am

Hi all,

I just installed a fresh copy of Mint, and when I install packages with apt it seems awfully slow, usually downloading at 5-10kbps. I know it's not my connection since using the Internet in the browser works fine. I don't know if it's the Linux Mint servers that are slow or something else on my end, but my question is this:

Is it possible to replace the stock LMDE repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list with Debian ones, without breaking anything?

Thanks!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Moved here as this is about LMDE.

The LMDE FAQ answers this somewhat, here viewtopic.php?f=197&t=91405.

i think you should tryu pointing the apt manager to another server closer to your place and give it a try. Pointing it to a debian repo will also change the software sources and will intimate you a lot of updates which are not approved and check by linuxmint.
