New install of LMDE ?

Hi all,
I have a few questions that I would like some advise on. My wife has decided to install LMDE on her machine but I am not sure what to do after reading about all the update problems, the repositories that have changed, etc. Do I just download the LMDE 201204 DVD and install ? Do I have to change repositories or do I use the default repositories that are on the DVD or do they need to be changed to something different?
I am looking for a easy, problem free install on her computer. Her computer is an HP, dual core 1.6Ghz, with 4 gig of ram, Nvidia graphics card. She mainly uses the computer for Internet surfing, email, listening to a little music sometimes, and and burning a few cd's now and then. She is looking for something that is stable and doesn't need all the latest software, but still want to be able to update to newer versions as they become stable.
Any thoughts, advise or suggestions would be appreciated.
Glenn
