Hover Text/Background Modification in Panels

Post by c.k.m. »

Hi,

I have just started using LMDE MATE. I have noticed that there is an inconsistency in the text color in the description boxes that pop up when I hover over icons in the panel. Most of them have black text with a manila background, however the menu and wifi icons have a white text over the manila background. This is difficult to read. How do I customize this detail?

Thanks!

This description sounds so unusual that I have to ask for a few screenshots :)

Here you go:

It's only the menu and the wifi icons that have the white-on-manila problem. Everything else shows black-on-manila like the third screenshot.

Interesting... What theme is this? Looks like a mix of Mint-X and Mint-Z to me.

Also, can you post the output of these commands?

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy mint-x-theme

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy mint-themes

It's a Mint-X theme, customized with a 'Dopple' window border.

The output from

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy mint-x-theme
is

Code: Select all

mint-x-theme:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1.0.7
  Version table:
     1.0.7 0
        700 http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian/main i386 Packages
The output from

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy mint-themes
is

Code: Select all

mint-themes:
  Installed: 1.0.8
  Candidate: 1.0.8
  Version table:
 *** 1.0.8 0
        700 http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

In the appearance settings, check Customize -> Colors -> Windows -> Text. Should be #212121.
The button for choosing the Tooltip Text color should be grayed out (i.e. inaccessible).

Is the "Reset to Defaults" button grayed out?

No, but I did just press 'Reset to Defaults' and it solved the problem. I had changed the 'Background' color for 'Selected items' to a slightly more saturated green. That was the only difference from the Default. I just changed it again, had the same result with the white text in the menu and wifi, and reset to default once again to confirm. Seems like there is some relationship that I don't understand....

Yes, I've figured something out and filed this bug in the meanwhile.

Did the menu tooltips color revert back too?

Yep. I have a uniform tooltips text color after resetting to default.

It's strange that it affected the menu. It looks like the usual mintMenu, but with GTK+3 theme - whereas mintMenu still uses GTK+2. Or did you install something else similar to it?

Just to say that I had the same issue with Slimboat hovering links. In the Appearance menu changed the style from mint-x to xfce and back to mint-x and everything is working now. I am on Linux Mint Xfce 14.

All settings chosen came as part of the default options already available with the most recent LMDE edition iso. I hadn't installed anything extra, as far as appearance/desktop customization is concerned.
