package removal issue

for some reason xchat seems tied to the desktop environment and removing xchat will destroy it. is there any idea why or a safe way to remove xchat? i also want to remove the bluetooth functionality as the system with it installed does not have anything bluetooth nor do i plan to use it.

Removing xchat doesn't destroy anything, it only removes a metapackage.

I am not sure what you mean by meta package. Would you be able to explain or provide other packages as examples? I tried Google but it seemed very generic.
