Can I switch from IDE to AHCI mode?

Post by pjc123 »

Are there any pre or post steps that I need to take to change my 3 drives from IDE to AHCI mode with regards to Debian or other Linux installs I have on various drives, or will they automatically install the proper drivers and just boot normally? I need to change modes because I am swapping out my Windows mechanical drive for an SSD (I know what has to be done there).

AFAIK, you'd configure this in your BIOS.

Works no problem with Mint. Should be fine with the others too.

I know the basics of HOW to do it. I just wanted to know if it would kill my preinstalled Linuxes.
