Hibernate turns computer off
On my laptop when I select hibernate from shut down menu it says its suspending but seems to actually just be shutting down. When I try to resume it starts up and any programs that were open are no longer open. It appears to boot up fresh. It however sleeps and wakes up just fine. I have a 8gb swap partition so that shouldn't be the issue... The computer is a Toshiba Satellite L655 laptop with 4gb ram. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Hibernate turns computer off
Suspend to RAM, and "hibernate" are two different states.
Suspend saves the session in RAM in a low power state, but doesn't totally shut down.
Hibernate should save the current session to the hard drive and then shuts down. When the system is restarted, it should boot faster since it's the restoring the saved session, but if your system is doing a fresh boot each time, that is a little strange, and I don't have an explanation.
