No Sound after LiveDVD

I was able to get sound on the LiveDVD on my Gateway M250 laptop by unchecking 'external amplifier' in alsamixer. After first boot, I went into alsamixer again and had to uncheck external amplifier again but this time there was NO sound.

I installed a liquorix kernel (Linux gatelap 2.6.35-4.dmz.1-liquorix-686 #1 ZEN SMP PREEMPT Fri Aug 27 05:55:28 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux) to see if that resulted in some differences but I still have no sound.

If anyone has ideas, please let me know...I'm at a complete loss as to why sound isn't working.
