With Mint Gnome 9 no problem, I can open this type of CD; but with LMDE, I can't. I have both OS in my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A100-755). The following message appears:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
I had experienced same problem with mint KDE 8 and 9; I had reported it as a bug time ago. Because of this and other problems (with audio CDs, etc) I left KDE and I am happy now with gnome, and very excited with this LMDE release (nice work!).

I don't know, if I can help, but you have a hint: "dmesg":

In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so

is a protocol, maybe you find an error message.

Thank you, anyway. I've been trying repeatedly to open the UDF-type CD and, surprisingly, sometimes the system succeeded and I could read what is inside (success in 30-50% of attempts). Definitely I do not understand... Below is a sample from "dmesg" messages with the two last sentences showing how the CD is mounted when I could read it. Can anyone give me some light? Thanks

I will move this issue to launchpad bug reporting site (https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/703828), because finally I noticed that the UDF volume is correctly mounted if previously a non-UDF CD is inserted and mounted.
