'Xfce Power Manager- HAL Daemon is not running'

Postby chris_debian on Mon Feb 14, 2011 10:12 am

Hi, all!

On start-up today, I am getting a dialogue box saying:

Code: Select all
Xfce Power Manager- HAL Daemon is not running

This is preventing removable (USB) drives from being used (and my USB printer, I guess).

I had this before, but then realised that I didn't have 'xfce-power manager' installed. If I log into Gnome, everything is fine. I have done

Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/hal restart

and this works without error. When I

Code: Select all
tail -20 /var/log/messages

I see my device being plugged-in, I just don't see it on my desktop or in Thunar.

Any help appreciated as xfce is my preferred desktop environment and I don't really want to have to switch to Gnome to use USB storage devices.

Cheers,

Chris.
