Alternate Document Icons for Office?

Postby fullmoonguru on Fri May 13, 2011 1:14 pm

I have recently switched to LibreOffice. I was hoping that my document icons would change, but I guess it's really a Gnome thing. The program icons look great, with distinct colors for the separate apps (Writer, Calc, etc.), but the document icons in Nautilus are so vague it's hard to tell the difference between a calc doc, & writer doc. I'm not having any luck finding a icon pack to install to change this. Is there one I don't know about, or even a way to use another icon pack that might already be in there?

There are plenty of icon themes that can be installed from GNOME Look. The Faenza theme has particularly distinct icons for documents.

I'm trying to load the Faenza icons, but I get this error:

Code: Select all
gtk-update-icon-cache: No theme index file.

I tried searching it but I'm getting more confused. Anyway, this will only work if I use the full Faenza icon theme, right? People rave about it so maybe I'll like it, but I'm really wanting to just replace the icons that are used for office documents.

So I found out about Assogiate & got all excited but changing the OO spreadsheet icon there didn't change it in Nautilus. I right-clicked a spreadsheet in Nautilus & saw "vnd.oasis.opendocument.spreadsheet". I changed it in Assogiate and rebooted with no luck.
