Network Manager with public bridge

Postby c.monty on Sat May 21, 2011 10:09 am

Hello!

I have configured a public bridge in /etc/network/interfaces in order to run a VM (with QEMU/KVM) in the same network:
Code: Select all
s@pc1-lmde ~ $ cat /etc/network/interfaces
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual

# The primary network interface
#allow-hotplug eth0
#NetworkManager#iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto br1
iface br1 inet static
    address 192.168.178.11
    netmask 255.255.255.0
    gateway 192.168.178.1
    bridge_ports eth1
    bridge_stp off
    bridge_fd 0
    bridge_maxwait 0

As a result the network manager shows no connection to the network.

Can I use the network manager having a public bridge configured?
If not, should I uninstall network manager?
In case I should uninstall network manager, what about the other program that will be automatically uninstalled?
Code: Select all
s@pc1-lmde ~ $ sudo apt-get remove network-manager-gnome
Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut
Statusinformationen werden eingelesen... Fertig
Die folgenden Pakete werden ENTFERNT:
  mint-meta-debian network-manager-gnome
