Desktop Icons don't work after update ?

Hi everyone. Well I am down to just two problems, after the update3 pak.

Problem #1.
The desktop icons do not work! I can click on them with the mouse but nothing happens. The only way that I can get the home folder icon to work is right click with mouse and choose browse folder and then it will open sometimes and then sometimes not. It is very irratical whether it will open or not.

Problem #2.
After the update it takes along time for anything to open in the menu. Click on it with the mouse and it takes forever to open the program or application. I had the problem solved before the update so it must have been something that the update added that is causing my problems.

Any ideas or suggestion on what I need to do? I am completely lost on what to do or where to look for the answers?

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I think the hesitation in performance might be caused by the following screenshots. I think the system is busy writting to the log.the system is writting 3 logs per second.
