First of all...

Wouldn't it be nice if it was possible to squeeze in just a few more letters in the subject line?

Then to my question... after reading the thread about reinstalling without format (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 62&start=0) my thoughts go to my intentions of getting the front panel headphone jack to work (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 63#p483695) on my computer... (thinking about stating all over on that one).
Thing is that I might not be the most methodical dude when it comes to searching for errors, trying new things to correct them and so on... meaning I might make changes to my system that are not that easy to revert without going back to one of my cloned images. So - reading the thread about reinstalling got me thinking about my options.
My setup consists (mainly) of three partitions:
Hdd 1 - root & home (nothing strange there)
Hdd 2 - files (holds my "downloads", "music", "virtualbox" & "video"-folders symlinked to /home)
This I've done so that the drive holding the more "important" stuff is kept as small as possible making my Trueimage clones the same way.
On top of that I've done changes to:
- my sources.list (to be able to download wine & playonlinux)
I've added some more stuff to my user (users & groups)
I've added a couple of linse to my fstab for automounting a couple of more partitions
I've installed a bunch of programs (both Linux apps and stuff in Wine)
Conky
etc..
So - what happens if I would plug in my usb stick with the LMDE iso, start the installer and just "push" a new install onto /root? Will the symlinks still be there? my additions to the fstab? Or are there files I should backup from /root and then put them back after the reinstall?
/Thanks in advance,
/gosa
