Gnome Classic: Can't edit desktop or menus. Persists on MATE
I just installed debian mint, and switched to gnome classic. However, when access the menu editing interface (aka: system tools -> preferences -> Main Menu), I can see what's already there, but can't add new items to it. I am unable to add links or folders to the desktop, as well. Does anyone know what's going on and how I should fix it? Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure LMDE doesn't have a gnome classic login, unless you installed or updated to Gnome 3. Please open a terminal and type and see what it tells you.
Code: Select all
inxi -S
Mint Cinnamon 20.1

Re: Gnome Classic: Can't edit desktop or menus
Update: I installed MATE, and the problem persists, though at least I now have a garbage bin and other quick access icons in my desktop.
