I think cinnamon 1.2 is stable enough for replace gnome 2.32 in LMDE.

@marcg,
tks for the link, it's very interesting!

@davedarkblade, we are using it for a few days and (at least with me) is as stable as it can be.

I saw the way for install cinnamon in sid but I want wait for the update-pack. I prefer the stable debian-latest repo. I used cinnamon in mint 12 and it works very well, muffin too.

Can anyone throw in a realistic guess for when UP4 could be released? Although I'm not expecting any improvements in functionality other than Xfce related glitches, I catch myself running the update command on a daily basis. :?

Well, it looks like most of gnome3 packages are in Testing now.
You can have a look here http://packages.debian.org/testing/allpackages
It seems to me that right now Mint Team is focusing on Mint KDE 12. I suppose once the Mint KDE 12 is out, Mint Team will focus on UP4.

I can only hope that one day Mint Debian will become a priority for Mint Team. Imagine Mint Debian with Cinnamon Desktop as default and all the goodies (gnome-language-selector, proprietary drivers etc.) found in Mint Ubuntu version .

Let's hope for it!

Yeah, they will focus on UP4, sure! )) Well, after mintKDE release they will focus on fresh ubuntu, then some new gnome and so on.
As I can understand, LMDE wil never be priority distro for Mint team, because of Debian base. Mint distro for mass people is Linux MInt xx (Ubuntu base with Cinnamon), other experienced folks may use LMDE and configure it as they like it to.
By the way, LMDE works well now with Debian Testing and Cinnamon (from git), so there is no need in UP4.
Have enough skill -- do your linux youself, there is a good base for it (LMDE). Don't have -- use Linux Mint xx.

Update Pack 4 should hit the “incoming” LMDE repository in the coming weeks and provide MATE, Cinnamon, GNOME 3 and Gnome Shell to LMDE users.
says Clem in January stats post.

I don't know already if its good news...
I've used LMDE for about a year, I like it's idea of debian testing + the touch of mint team. but I switched to debian testing direct bacuse LMDE looked dead to me for the past 6 months, and if update pack 5 would take another 6 months then I'm not sure I can use LMDE..

I think lmde would be better if based on debian sid. Into sid the update pack will be more useful instead into testing.

Disagree. Sid is very experimental and often breaks. Too much stability loss. Primary, LMDE is a customizable distro for work, not for pure experiments.
Testing is stable enough to use it for everyone.
