I have used the Ubuntu based versions of Mint for a few years, but have always found them rather hard on resources on my fairly elderly machine, so when i read about SolusOS I thought I would give it a try. I am pretty satisfied with it and it is much easier on resources than Ubuntu Mint, however being based on an older edition of Debian , quite a lot of the software is out of date, both included and in the repositories.

How is LMDE on system resources, and I presume that the versions of software included or in the repositories are more up to date. I ran LMDE from a CD and it seems pretty good.

Should I change over or stick with SolusOS.

I dual booted LMDE and SolusOS for a few weeks an really didn't see a huge difference in system demands. As to program versions available in each OS, they are both Debian derivatives so switching or adding programs to fit ones tastes and needs is no big deal. My suggestion is run them both and then make your own call based on function and performance. Good Luck

SolusOS is based on Debian Stable with some newer packages.
with backports and things like Firefox 13 in the SolusOS repos you can easily get newer versions of the most used apps

LMDE is based on Debian Testing

Both used the same resources more or less.

You could also try the SolusOS alpha which is based on Debian testing

My number one issue against LMDE is that it is built on Debian Testing, which I think is the worst possible way to go with Debian. Debian Sid gives you everything new and fast updates, but it can get broken. Debian Stable is rock solid, you get fairly quick security updates, but as you mention, you are going to get older software. Debian Testing gets broken easily, unless you are pointing to Mint Latest, then it takes forever to get updates, and you still may get breakage.
SolusOS--you get the rock solid Debian Stable, plus you get a lot of up to date software. It is very polished, and ikey seems to be working around the clock on it. For me it was a no brainer. SolusOS all the way. And the SolusOS 2 Alpha 4 has done the impossible, make a gnome 2 desktop out of gnome 3, full featured, polished, and it looks pretty much exactly like gnome 2 in the SolusOS 1 version, amazing.
