Upgrade from Mint (ubuntu) to LMDE with /home intact

Hi,
I've been using mint for quite a while and am very pleased with it!
I've been wanting to try LMDE for a while now, and I think it's time to bit the bullet.
I already have a separate /home partition. Can I safely install LMDE over my current Mint standard installation? What do I need to watch for? Are there any particular packages I should be wary of, or directories I should be holding onto?
Even though I'm reasonably comfortable with Linux, day to day, I'm certainly a newb in this department!
Thanks for your help!

as long as you format the system partition during the installation everything should be okay. I also migrated from nadia to LMDE and everything is running fine.
