IRC Chat not connecting in LMDE

OK, for all the wrong reasons, I was trying to use X Chat IRC. I opened it, and this is what I received for 2-3 minutes:



A seartch of the forum didn't turn up this problem, so I assume it is unique. Any suggestions?

That happened a couple of times last weekend - servers went offline temporarily.
Maybe best to shut down XChat and try again an a few minutes.

Thanks for your suggestion Oscar. I just tried it again and received the same results. Perhaps I have really misspelled something? I don;t know . . .

If you haven't changed anyhing it should be preconfigured to connect to mint irc..

Haven;t touched a thing - first time I ever used it. All I wanted to do was to see what would happen. I guess I know now . . .

Probably some problems that is out of your hand then. Temporary connection issues i guess.

I am STILL having problems connecting to mint chat. I can connect to other channels just fine, but mint keeps giving me the error messages found in my OP. Here are my settings. Is there anything amiss?

I can only see one difference between your settings and mine - you have a checkmark in "Bypass proxy server" and I don't
The Nickserv password wouldn't make a difference,that's just to auto-identify
