no gui login

Installed Mint 6 Debian; rebooted and got dropped off at the command line before I got to the gui login. Is this normal?

I entered Id and password and then entered "startx" thinking I would get to the gui desktop. Instead I got something about "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc refcount is 2: should be 1"

Then there was more that was something like this:

/var/log/Xorg.0.log
Xinit: no such file or directory error2
no program named xterm in path

Does any of this mean anything to anyone that could point me in the right direction. I use the command line sparingly so I am not familiar with a lot of the powerful commands to fix things.

The Debian CE is experimental and not supported officially* so you can expect problems. I hope someone involved in this CE can answer you.
*This does not mean that we dislike it, only that you are on your own
