[Solved] update not working

When I run the mint update utility I am receiving some errors. It says it can't reach some repositories, and can't get some packages. Below are the two error message I receive.

What happens if you run apt-get update in a terminal?

Those are exactly the errors I would expect to get if its apt-get cannot connect to the Internet. Maybe the port is blocked? What is the output of

I read that and it only refrences VLC. I can't beleive that the only thing in the debian-multimedia repo is VLC. I do understand what the post is saying though, and if I run into problems with VLC then I will work around them.

However, this doesn't explain why I can't reach the debian-multimedia, or linuxmint repos.

tec_wiz,
I had your same problem with debian multimedia repository and have solved following the link I gave.
For the other problems post your sources.list as requested.
When an issue has been resolved for you, please edit the original post to include <SOLVED> in the title. This provides a good indicator for users with a similar problem to check out the thread.

The reason this fixes the debian-multimedia repo issue is because the link tells you to remove that repository from your sources list. This does not solve my problem, only removes the problem. I would like to be able to use the debian-multimedia repo if I am supposed to use it.

I do appreciate the help though.

Not to be a party pooper but VLC is not in the debian-multimedia.org repo it is in the main Debian repos.

The VLC thread really only applies to Stable, very people running Testing have had issues using the dmm repo. While I do not know of anyone that has issues with vlc in sid.


Now back on topic, can you post your /etc/resolv.conf

Also check /etc/apt/apt.conf it should either be empty or it might not even exist.

I had a similar issue a while back, my router is setup to use DHCP and OpenDNS nameservers, but apt-get kept throwing errors so I edited dhcp.conf and added the nameservers to my desktop.

I tried this and it worked!!!! Thank you so much. I added the opendns servers to my dhcp.config file and everything seems to be working fine now.

Just so anyone who looks this up in the future knows. I ended up using the google DNS server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 instead of the opendns one. The open dns server was blocking a few sites I reguarly visit because it had parental controls enabled.

The GPG error isn't a concern, that's just the Iceweasel 4 repo without a key.
