Login screen question [Solved]

Postby doktordave on Mon Nov 08, 2010 9:46 pm

Does anyone know where the file called "debian-swirl" in the /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults file is, and the full file name? Even better would be if someone could tell me what .conf or other file sets this value. I'd like to use my own, and can't seem to find this. It's not critical, but I'd like to figure it out if possible.

Also are there any other options that can be set in /etc/gdm3/greeter.gconf-defaults? I guess a better way to put it would be to ask where I can read up on this topic. I'm a "dangerous" linux user, and would rather ask than break it if I can.

As far as where debian-swirl is located:

Code: Select all
~ $ locate debian-swirl
/usr/share/icons/gnome/16x16/places/debian-swirl.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/22x22/places/debian-swirl.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/24x24/places/debian-swirl.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/256x256/places/debian-swirl.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/32x32/places/debian-swirl.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/48x48/places/debian-swirl.png
/usr/share/icons/gnome/scalable/places/debian-swirl.svg
/usr/share/pixmaps/debian-swirl-logo.svg

I'd found that list with nautilus before, but I didn't get all the way through. Thanks for the reply, now I have a faster way to find things.

After trying again, it looks like the winner is:

/usr/share/icons/gnome/256x256/places/debian-swirl.png

I renamed the existing image, copied my file there, and renamed it to debian-swirl.png. It will most likely turn up in some other odd places as well, but it works for the moment.
