cannot add applets to Gnome panels

Post by yonnie »

Followed the users guide to add applets to panel and right-click does not do a damn thing. Cannot find Nautilus to see if it's a setting that's blocking me. The menu's don't seem to have anything available that refers to actual panel settings that I can enable or adjust.

What do I need to install to get the Gnome to work?

Running LinuxMint 12, fresh install. Supposed to be Gnome 3. Acer Aspire 3690, all of the hardware seems to be working.

Thanks for the reply and reference to Tips and Tricks. However, I could not find any tips/tricks that apply to Panel Applets and why the Gnome 3 panels don't function. Did I miss it?

Gnome 3 panels are totally different from the gnome 2 panel, they are part of gnome shell. IOW you shouldn't expect the same behaviour.

Well, if Gnome3 is broken, why is it being distributed? The new KDE is broken too, the stupid widgets don't stick which means every boot time you have to hunt them down again. Why can't the developers just enhance what already works instead of breaking what does? The only reason I put Linuxmint on was to use the Gnome because it has been very useful in the past and because Unity truly SUX rocks! Guess I'll switch to Debian, it still uses Gnome2.
