Mate and Firefox... (SOLVED)

Mate and Firefox... (SOLVED)

Postby tenfoot on Sun Apr 29, 2012 6:05 pm

Using LMDE - Mate and/or Cinnamon.

Whenever I launch Firefox while using Mate, the default page displayed is the Mate Home page, even though my preference Home page is shown as the Default in the Preferences menu. How can I change this, please?

And what is the default in the preferences menu? Does it say, greyed out, "Mozilla Firefox Start Page"?

You may want to check your settings directly. Go to the url about:config. Search for: homepage. If you have indeed set the default, and it shows "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" on the preferences menu, it should show you the following:

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Unfortunately, I haven't mastered how to insert an image

The result is very similar to the example you gave, with the first line

Code: Select all
browser.startup. homepage     user set     string     <my Home page>

in bold type

then six other lines dealing with "user set: in bold, followed by

Code: Select all
services.sync.prefs.sync.browser.startup.home page           default     boolean     true
startup.homepage_override_url                                        default     string        http://www.mozilla.com/%LOCALE%/%APPS%/%VERSION%/whatsnew/
startup.homepage_welcome_url                                       default     string        http://www.mozilla.com/%LOCALE%/%APPS%/%VERSION%/firstrun/

all greyed out.

At that time I was using Cinnamon. I logged out and then in again but this time opting for MATE. Launched Firefox and the first page displayed was the MATE Wiki blog.

I then closed Firefox. Checked about.config (of course it was the same as the one generated from Cinnamon) and then launched Firefox again. Much to my surprise my Home page was displayed and it has been thus ever since.

I have no idea why this happened but am glad it did so.

Again, thank you for your quick reply. I am now a "happy geriatric" :)

Good that you got it fixed, though we don't know how :)
