[Solved]Not working theme in some application's GUI

Hello Linux users, I am now using Linux Mint 12 with latest stable(?) version 1.2 and some of my applications looks like this:

Here you can see 3 window examples:
* PulseAudio - it should be GNOME application, and it's buttons / interface / icons looks ugly?
* Rhythmbox - it is the same case

* Banshee - it is counter example, it is GNOME (?) application too, it isn't default MATE application and all it's buttons, icons looks like rest of my theme / shell (?).

My system is set to use ClearLooks theme, I find that theme very beautiful.

All already installed:
* Gtk+ 2.0 Change Theme - set theme to ClearLooks
* Qt configuration 4.7.4 - set theme to GTK+ (looks the same like ClearLooks - wonder why)
* Qt configuration 3.3.8b - set theme to Polymer (closest of all themes to ClearLooks)

So, how to make all applications looks the same as my system? With all that GTK+ and Qt things even KDE applications looks like my original desktop. But some GNOME applications don't?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

try some theme with both gtk2/gtk3 support. (for example atolm-gtk3)
maybe those apps that doesnt display ur theme correctly, are trying to pick up gtk3

OK,I tried a lot of things, and I found out:

1) There are some applications, which use QT (some version)
2) There are some applications, which use GTK+ (some version)

And when you have some "theme" set in your system, that doesn't mean every application will look the same as others.

So basically, I need to find some nice theme, which supports both GTK 2.0 and 3.0. Next I have to set QT themes to looks like GTK+ or find some other "theme" to looks the same (or similar).

It is pretty complicated.

Next I have to set QT themes to looks like GTK+

That part is easy. Install "qt4-qtconfig". Run it and set the theme option to "gtk". All your Qt apps will pick up whatever gtk theme you have set.

The gtk2/gtk3 part is more problematic. Gtk3 themeing is currently in a pitiful state IMHO!! Even worse, the options for a theme that looks good in gtk 2&3 is almost non-existent. I run gtk-chtheme to set my gtk2 theme and use gnome-tweak-tool to set gtk3 theme. You don't escape this by moving to Xfce either; as it is migrating from gtk2 based to gtk3 based as well (v4.10).

KDE4 is looking good for a year or so?! :)

good luck

Man, I have tried KDE as well, but:

  • There were so many things which I didn't needed (NEPOMUK !!! - semantic DESKTOP?? ).
  • ACTIVITIES - I never understand what is it.
  • Almost everything in KDE were gray / black / transparent, I just don't like OS, which looks like your graphic card can't draw more than 2 colors...

And why to try struggle with KDE 4, when all I want is GNOME 2 ? :D I can ignore this problem with GTK3 vs GTK2 applications when I recall all the problems with other distros.
