Missing context menu item "Add to Archive"

Missing context menu item "Add to Archive"

Postby AngelusWebDesign on Wed May 09, 2012 1:37 pm

I did a fresh install of Linux Mint 12, I'm using MATE for my desktop.

It does look almost exactly like Mint 11 with Gnome 2, except I can't right-click a folder and create an archive quickly and easily from the context menu.

Is there any way to add this item back? It was very useful.

Is this one of the weak points of MATE, where it hasn't quite achieved parity with Gnome 2?

Thanks,

Matthew

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

On Gnome 2 I think this link from Nautilus to File-Roller is provided by nautilus-actions package. On MATE Nautilus is forked to Caja and File-Roller to Engrampa. I think the root problem is Linux Mint 12 doesn't have the newest version of MATE available. Engrampa is not available in the Linux Mint 12 repository and File-Roller instead is still installed on Linux Mint 12. Checking for Linux Mint 13, Engrampa is in the repositories: http://packages.linuxmint.com/list.php?release=Maya

Installing nautilus-actions on MATE didn't do anything as expected, but worth a try I thought (it wasn't ). I think this is resolved on Linux Mint 13, but perhaps also a "caja-actions" package will be needed. Perhaps the MATE forums can answer, but I didn't find anything there yet: http://mate-desktop.org/

I'm on LMDE and track mate-desktop.org wheezy repositories (which requires some of Debian Wheezy) and it's just called "Compress ..." in context menu.
My Linux history: Ubuntu 10.04 - 10.10 - LMDE 201109 - UP4 My sources.list/preferences

Computers is not science. And it's not magic - it's something in between.
