Tweetdeck problems on MATE desktop

Tweetdeck problems on MATE desktop

Postby Grandad on Wed May 09, 2012 9:03 pm

I'm using Linux Mint 12 (amd64) and have installed Adobe Air and Tweetdeck. [I know about both being discontinued, but I'm stubborn]

Tweetdeck works perfectly on the Gnome Desktop. However, when I switch to MATE [my preference] Tweetdeck refuses to go anywhere. I get a "Ooops. Tweetdeck cannot find your data" or somesuch and it goes into a sulk. I'm left with a blank black Tweetdeck screen with all the little icons on the top.

I tried purging both Air and Tweetdeck and installing both via MATE, but that makes no difference.

Has anyone come across anything like this before?

I am having the exact same issue. I know how to install Tweetdeck in OpenSuse and Ubuntu with out it crashing. For some reason you can install it in Mate but all it does is crash once you open it up.. Help Please.. Thank You Very Much.

Running the applications from terminal (maybe even verbose) would show some error logs.

Thanks äxl

Sorry! I'm new[ish] to Linux. I should have done that first.

I ran Tweetdeck from Terminal -
Code: Select all

I just checked in Synaptic and "pixbuf" seems to be installed. Is that any use?

I am a bit confused as to what is going on with this Mate desktop. I still have not gotten Tweetdeck to work properly on it.

Well... I guess these two quotes pretty much answer the question. :)

Hah! Thanks Monsta. I missed that.

No problem - I rarely use Twitter anyway. And I have Mint 13 to play around with now. :D

Yes, it's in the "Chat about Linux Mint" section this time, a bit unusual to find it there :)

Hah! I finally got Tweetdeck to run. :D

I'm running 13 [Mate version] and installed Wine. Using that, I installed TweetDeck.msi. The only problem then was that I had to CD into the Tweetdeck folder to run it which was messy and tedious, so I created a small shell script:

Code: Select all
cd "/home/grandad/.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Twitter/TweetDeck"
wine TweetDeck.exe

The script is now run directly from the menu and works perfectly.
