Auto-unlock mate-keyring

Auto-unlock mate-keyring

Postby mathieuS on Fri May 25, 2012 9:25 am

Hello,

mate-keyring won't unlock automatically at login. After I log in, a pop up shows and asks me to enter the Default keyring password, even though automatic login isn't enabled.
Is there a possibility to auto-unlock it ?
(By the way, gnome-encfs requests for access to the keyring, in order to auto-mount my encrypted folders.)

Thanks for your help,
Mathieu

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Are you sure it's mate-keyring? Do you still have Gnome installed? As long as MATE isn't working properly you could use Gnome's keyring like this:

I think the Startup Applications you need are Certificate and Key Storage and Secret Storage Service. If it doesn't help try the others (PolicyKit Authentication Agent etc.) as well.

Yes, I am sure. I disabled gnome-keyring at startup.

I used Seahorse to remove the keyring password, hence using an unsafe storage. This is no real fix though...

Thank you for your help,

Supposedly this is fixed in the newest version of mate-keyring, 1.3.1. I don't find this version in any of Mint's repos though and not all of MATE's direct repos either.

For me, using gnome-keyring resulted in multiple instances of gnome-keyring-daemon running after using the desktop for a while, some of which were several MB in size.

I tried MATE 1.4 from the mate-desktop repo (deb http://repo.mate-desktop.org/debian/ wheezy main) on my Debian Wheezy and met the same issue. However I found it can be solved the way it is described here on github: https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-ke ... nt-4344803 (basically replacing "pam_gnome_keyring" strings with "pam_mate_keyring"). And now my keyring unlocks on login 8)

NB: I did this for lightdm since I don't use neither mdm nor gdm.
