Open Directory in GNOME Search with Caja (Mint 13 MATE)

Open Directory in GNOME Search with Caja (Mint 13 MATE)

Postby RytronII on Sun Jun 10, 2012 5:43 pm

Hi.

Every-time I goto open a directory in Search [image attached] it tries to open in Pluma instead of a file manager i.e. Caja. It does not matter if I select the option to 'Open' or 'Open Folder'. How can this be remedied?

Thanks.

If I open a file in Catfish - it opens it with pluma. :x :cry:

I cannot help (I'm just a n00b-with-some-experience), but I just tested it on my computer, and the folder correctly opens with Caja.

I see there is no "Caja" to choose from in the list with "Open with other application", when you right-click the folder; if there had been, I imagine that might have solved your issue.

How would I remove all bar 'file manager' from this [attached image]? Or else re-order the list? :?: :?:

This is the setup. In the first image I want to open the corresponding folder.
In the second image it shows that pluma tried to open the directory that the files 'Jokes.txt' is in. :x :?:

Right click on a directory;

"Open With";

"Other application . . ."

Make sure box for 'Remember this application for "folder" files' is checked.

Click Caja (on my system there are 2 Caja entries, Dunno why & it doesn't seem to matter. Both open a folder as user) and it will become highlighted.

Click "Open" button.

That should do it.

How use's can prevent this and similar things happening in the future:
When using "Open With"; "Other Application" always make sure make sure box for 'Remember this application for "<whatever>" files' is NOT checked before clicking "Open" button. Unless, that is, you WANT to change the default application.

How developers can prevent this and similar things happening in the future:
Make the "Remeber this . . ." box UNCHECKED by default. Defaults should never be changed by default. Default behaviour should only be changed by concious user choice.
/me steps down from soapbox.

Thanks Lew_Rockwell_Fan. Yes, the 'default' checked by default can throw people. Problem sorted. :)
