Lost Toobar

Lost Toobar

Postby Bobrm2 on Fri Aug 03, 2012 9:23 am

Switched from Ubuntu 12.04 to Mint Mate.

Was unable to envoke FPM2 and decided to installed Gnome: reading somewhere that Gnome was needed by FPM2. Many years of passwords involved here. Mint did run nicely, FPM2 did run once and once only, before I tried to install the Gnome desktop. I used Synaptic to install the Gnome desktop??

New desktop appeared but Now, I have no "Application/Places and no toolbar? I can do a ctrl/alt/del, log out etc, still not way to control the computer. I do have "Firefox" ability on that machine.

1. Is FPM2 suppose to work in Linux Mint?
2. I have searched the Left side/corners etc. without success.
3. SUDO password is not being accepted, when attempting to switch "Users" or Desktops.

Your assistance most appreciated.

Bob

Trying to think of other information you will need. Thanks in advance.

I've got a similar problem. I've just installed mint 13 and everything went OK and all the main hardware seems to work- though getting to the iso desktop took ages.

I have the toolbar (w/o calender/clock) but everything else that was there in 12 is there, but not menu in bottom left hand corner. This does make the system less than usable as the Post by Bobrm2 said. Interestingly in this version ctrl-alt-backspace kills X and take you back to the login window so I can get out. Long time since that worked in ubuntu....

Urgent solution would be appreciated!

Much thanks

Which desktop are you on; mine's Gnome Classic (marked as last used). Anyway, no luck with your solution, I've been using Ctrl/Alt/Delete, to get back to "Logout/In" Will try as you instructed to see if it helps. My solution has not been found.

This issue has to do with Compiz and my GForce (Nvidia) video card GT240 if I'm not mistaken.

I would like to switch to the "Mate" desktop, not being allowed to0. Have no "Menu" and alt-f2 gnome-menu does nothing, (I am assuming that I am stuck in a gnome-desktop). Ctl/alt/T does get me to a terminal, but lost from that point. Lots of help from "chat", it's slow. Have also blacklisted some video drivers, hoping to defete the Compiz, didnt save the list nor the file name. Creating another possible problem.

Re-stating: I have nothing but folders, and Firefox on this desktop, and am unable to invoke "Menu" etc.

I still have not reached a solution, and since the previous responder posted a "solved" message for his problem I continued with another post, Apolgies to all.

Bob, you started this topic so it belongs to you, not to hhead, it doesn't matter what he does with his posts, your topic has not been solved, so carry on adding to it or bumping it as you like, the topic is only solved when you say it is, by editing your opening post. So you don't need to apologise and you don't need to open another thread either.

Obviously If I knew the answer to the question I would tell you - but sadly I don't.

Viking,
What I don't quite understand is how close in similarity Ubuntu and Mint are. I believe there has been discussion about this same problem on the Ubuntu forums. With all goings on, I haven't searched in that forums, instead depending on ixquick.com. Hope to reach a soluton, as I understand others have had this problem.
