Disabling the trash

I never use the trash, and generally it's no problem to just use Shift-Del to delete stuff, but sometimes other people use my computer and I just discovered that instead of deleting old periodicals, Calibre is sending them to the trash, so I'd really like some way to just disable the trash completely or have it automatically empty itself on a schedule or something so I don't have to think about it. Can anyone tell me how I could do either of those things?
