How can I remove the top panel from MATE?

Post by YouTu_01 »

I Installed MATE and I'd like to know how can I remove the top panel using the Terminal?.
Is it possible using mateconftool-2? I tried deleting the directory in ~/mateconf/apps/panel/toplevels and then retsarted the panel, but didn't work.

Any suggestions? that don't involve using the GUI.

Is it that you want to move the panel from the top of the screen to say the bottom, if so right click the panel, go to properties and choose bottom instead of top.

Alternatively ther is this thread.

@Fornhamfred

He was asking how to do so using the Terminal only. I have no clue why he wouldn't use the Gui other than curiousity's sake but his question still is not answered.

Hmm, make a copy of all config files you think may be relevant, remove the top panel with the GUI, and see what files have changed? Just an idea, I know it doesn't answer it. :)

Nope, I want(ed) to remove the panel not moving it.

Correct, I need(ed) it for a post-install script.
