Change CPU Frequence without admin password

Postby stef70 on Sat Dec 22, 2012 8:31 am

The CPU Frequency Scaling applet of Mate requires the admin password to change the frequency or governor

The problem is in the file
/var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/com.ubuntu.desktop.pkla
where the org.gnome services should be renamed org.mate

Modifying the file should work but the changes will be lost after the next update of the package policykit-desktop-privileges

A better solution is to add a new file (with the .pkla extension) in the same directory:

Code: Select all
[Change CPU Frequency scaling]
Identity=unix-group:admin;unix-group:sudo
Action=org.mate.cpufreqselector
ResultActive=yes

[Setting the clock]
Identity=unix-group:admin;unix-group:sudo
Action=org.mate.settingsdaemon.datetimemechanism.*
ResultActive=yes

The second part allows the desktop user to change the system date & time from the clock applet preferences.
