Request ( Mate's built in Copy manager )

Request ( Mate's built in Copy manager )

Postby raymerjacque on Tue Jan 22, 2013 7:53 am

I'd like to ask, is there not a better Copy manager that can be added to the next Mate release ?

I have not tried any of the other mint builds so no idea what they use, but the copy manager in mate is very basic, it does not have any pause or resume functionality, it only shows basic details and kinda feels like the old windows 3.1/XP file copy manager. Or atleast add support to be able to allow third party apps like super copier to handle copying. I tried Super copier and its not compatible with mate at all.

I love Mate, I think its extremely well designed and with compiz i can see myself running it for many years... Just the stupid built in copy manager really annoys me.

That is part of the file manager, Caja. That is a core application of MATE, so I don't think it will be replaced by another file manager. If you want to make that a suggestion for an improvement to Caja; you can make suggestions to the MATE developers on their forum, and feature requests on their GitHub page (mate-file-manager project for Caja). See their website for more information: http://mate-desktop.org/.

If you want, you can install and use a different file manager. I'm not sure which one has the features you are looking for though.

You can search in Software Manager for "file manager", that will show quite a few. Or do an Internet search. Dolphin, Thunar, PCManFM, Midnight Commander, SpaceFM, SunflowerFM, Xfe, just to name a few I can recall right now. But perhaps somebody will know which of these match your feature request

Found 2. Sunflower and Double Commander. Altho sunflower has a more modern look, double Commander has much more functionality and copies way faster.

Double Commander is the linux version of total commander and sports a similar look. if anyone needs a better app to copy large or qeue files then i highly recommend to use this :

in terminal just run these :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:alexx2000/doublecmd
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install doublecmd-qt

you can simply hold ctrl and select multiple files, and pushing F5 will automaticly copy files to opposite window, so pretty straight forward and easy to use, has pause/resume functions as well.
