Add-to-panel not working

I have a new install of Mint-Mate 14, and I'm trying to add the firefox launcher to the panel, and nothing happens.

I open the menu, find the Firefox launcher in favorites, right-click, and select "Add to Panel", and nothing happens. I do the same with the launcher in the Internet menu, and still nothing. "Add to Desktop" does work, but "Add to Panel" does nothing.

I right-click on the panel, and select "Add to Panel". I get the dialog, select "Application Launcher", select "Firefox Web Browser" from the menu, and click "Add", and still nothing. Do the same with xeyes, and still nothing.

I open a Terminal, and run:
/usr/lib/mate-panel/mate-panel-add --launcher=/usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop

And still nothing. No error messages, but no new launcher on the panel.

Any ideas?

Yes, something is wrong. It's working fine on a clean install of Linux Mint 14.1 MATE. Now, don't get mad, but did you do anything that might have caused this strange behavior? Like install Docky or similar applications? Not that I know these could cause this, but anything you experiment with may leave your system a little less stable.

It may be worth trying to delete all your MATE settings: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 61#p677025

I'd only installed Mint a few days before, and I'd not installed anything that I thought would causes these sorts of problems.

There are two oddities - I'm running Mint in a VMWare virtual, and I updated ubuiquity, during the install, so that I could do an LVM install.

But because I'm running on VMWare, doing test installs is pretty simple. So I did a plain install, and "Add to Panel" worked fine. Then I did an LVM install, and it still worked. Etc., etc. I sequentially added everything I had added, one at a time, and "Add to Panel" always worked.

So then I went back to the VM I'd had the problems with, and suddenly "Add to Panel" was working.

I hate these sorts of problems...
