mate desktop switching to syslog console after desktop boots

Hi,

I have setup a mint install to be used as a media player.

When it boots up it works fine and loads up the desktop however after a couple of seconds it then switches to what appears to be a system console.

if I hit control alt f8 it takes me back to the desktop. Control alt f7 goes back to the error messages.

I don't know why the desktop is switching to the f7 terminal shortly after it boots (3-4 seconds).
Most references that I have seen has mentioned the the first gui console should be on ctrl-alt-f7 so i don't know why it is console messages for me.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

I know this wont be helpful for anyone that comes across this post with the same issue but it has now stopped happening.

I haven't changed anything for a while and rebooted several times over the last few days and its not happening now.
