vsync/tearing - Big Problem on MATE!

Post by devmint »

Hi guys!

It's a pity, but after installation Linux Mint 15 (Olivia) x64 with MATE, I have found a big problem with vsync/tearing, when I am looking videos, clips etc.

It isn't something bad with the player VLC, because in Youtube.com the same problem.

Also, when I am moving fast windows, I see vsync/tearing problem.

My hardware: note Samsung 300V5Z with dual video nvidia/intel with optimus, intel core i3, 8gb DDR3

My spec.software: latest bumblebee (working rightly), latest MATE, latest VLC, latest adobe flash player, all system was updated.

I know, there a lot of people who have such a bug with different hardware and software.

Please, who knows how to solve this problem?

Let's speak about it, and may be we'll find solution of this inconvenience.

Don't sleep! Let's make Mint better! :wink:

I'm getting this issue on a Mac Mini as well, let me know if there's any information I can provide to help diagnose.

VSync Test videos

I just watched both those videos on Windows 7. all I can say is, rock solid, stable, butter smooth, gillette smooth, like it should, it better, worth pirating. mate on the other hand.......
Brings back those memories of the 200 dollar computers walmart was selling years ago with some weak Linux distro with no hardware support. didn't even support the hardware sold on. lmao

After I installed Nvidia's latest driver via the software manager, I noticed my video playback started tearing in Cinnamon. Adding the following two lines to /etc/environment fixed it:

Code: Select all

CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling
CLUTTER_VBLANK=True
See if it works for you :D

Just to confirm that it works on LM 15 Cinnamon, Acer E1-531 with Intel HD VGA.
Question, why is this not enabled by default in system in the first place?

I was excited that maybe this solution would help my blinking problem ( http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=206&t=145947 ) but no such luck :(
