In Control Center -> Keyboard Shortcuts (or the same in Menu -> Preferences -> KB shortcuts) you need to enable this shortcut / key combo. It should be in there but is disabled by default. Find "Run a terminal". Click on it to select that one. Now just <ctrl><alt>t. You should see it change in there. "Backspace" would disable it (if it's enabled).
