How to install caja extensions?
I would like to install https://github.com/cygwinports/mate-fil ... compare.py in caja 1.8.1
The help tells somethong about a folder $HOME/.mate2/caja-scripts, but even ~/.mat2 doesn't exist on my mint 17. Creating it and copy the executable .py file doesn't change anything.
How to get this extension running?

Re: How to install caja extensions?
You need at least to install python-caja in order to use caja extensions written in python
Edit: and the path may be wrong (related to an older release of MATE); for other caja 1.8 scripts it is ~/.config/caja/scripts... Indeed these python scripts are 2 years old and probably need some review if not completely obsolete.

Re: How to install caja extensions?
check if you have ~/.local/share/caja-python/extensions/ (hidden folder)
Re: How to install caja extensions?
No, this folder doesn't exist on my ~PatH57 wrote:check if you have ~/.local/share/caja-python/extensions/ (hidden folder)
Re: How to install caja extensions?
in caja click oh home (yourname left side) then Ctrl+h to show hidden files and folders
Re: How to install caja extensions?
Hidden files are displayed on my system - enabling this is one of the first actions after installation
Re: How to install caja extensions?
bit puzzled there.
Here's a slightly different approach that works great for me
Select two or more text files (any extension. Say foo.php , bar.py, abc.txt)
Right click on them. Goto properties.
Under the "Open With" tab. Select "Show other Applications".
Select Meld from the list and Add. (Don't make it the default application)
Close the dialog box.
From now on, whenever you need to compare 2 or more files, select the files, right click on them, and select 'meld' listed under "Open With". Meld will open with the diff.
I dig this setup. Keeps the Right click context menu cleaner and also gets meld working from inside caja or nemo

Re: How to install caja extensions?
Nice solution, thanks a lot.
Extensions: Caja extensions (common files) are installed on my system, but Edit|Preferences|Plugins is still empty. Looks like the extension mechanics are broken.

Re: How to install caja extensions?
don't think broken it must be somewhere else now we just couldn't find it right away
Re: How to install caja extensions?
caja help 'Caja Scripts' states phantastic things on extensions - but nothing is true...
Re: How to install caja extensions?
wouldn't know how to use half of it anyway and on my older PCs it would run as fast as a snail on steroids
