Half an hour after LM 17.1 Mate 32 installation my panel became corrupted - all icons jumped into the center and it became very short. I looked for info on how to rebuild or restore or reset it - to no avail. There are no "panel" or "mate-panel" files or directories in the home directory. Then I thought I read some day that "which" command lets the user to find the particular instance of the application. I ran "sudo which mate-panel" in the terminal and it answered: /usr/bin/mate-panel. I followed the path and found it was an executable. I clicked on it and it had a new default panel.
Now the old panel sits over the new panel and I'm looking for a way to delete it.

Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.
