Cannot save login sound in startup applications

Post by Colin66 »

I am running an up to date version of the original 64 bit Mint 17 with Mate desktop.
I log in automatically and have tried to add a sound at start up.
The command

Code: Select all

 paplay /usr/share/sounds/LinuxMint/stereo/desktop-login.ogg
plays ok in a terminal.
In the "Control Centre" I clicked on "Startup Applications" and added the command as above with the name "GNOME Login Sound" plus a comment.
On closing the box, "GNOME Login Sound" was shown as expected with its box ticked amongst the other startup programs.
I have done this on my other Mint computers without problems.
It will not save it!
After closing the list of startup programs and opening it up again I find that "GNOME Login Sound" was no longer listed.
Repeated these steps a few times with same result. Even tried editing the command, when it was listed and then saving, but it made no difference. It was never listed after closing and reopening the window.
Turning the "Sound Theme" on or off in "Sound Preferences" did not fix it either.
Any ideas?
