4z01235, I had the same problem with mintMenu--I installed some packages, then mintMenu wouldn't work after I rebooted. You probably already have tridex repo enabled but, if not, make sure to enable it (see my post from Wed Jan 11 on page 9) THEN sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade. This fixed my broken mintMenu and a host of other minor grievances. If no luck with this, the menubar applet might be a temporary fix until your problem gets sorted out.

Yep, I do have tridex added and have done an apt update and upgrade a few times since it was added. I'm currently using one of the other two menu applets that are available but mintmenu is the best by far IMO :p

Also I need to test my mint 12 installation in Gnome 3 a little more but at least after I log in to Mate, attempting to power off the machine results in it basically appearing to freeze during the shutdown process most of the time. I don't know if something is wrong with my installation or if I'm just too used to Mint 10, but I don't have the loading screen either, and there's also no verbose shutdown text. Also the "upgrade to DVD edition" in mintwelcome and the menus prompts a browser to open but no further action is taken. Same for the additional media codecs link in mintwelcome.

AlexSL wrote: 1. In latest MATE (from tridex repo) stickynotes applet can't save a note. I can make new note, but when I reboot or poweroff all notes are lost. In Gnome 2 this applet work fine. This bug is very important for me.
I found the cause of this problem:
In new version of mate-applets stickynotes applet save its data to /home/username/.config/mate/stickynotes_applet file, but I have not 'mate' directory in '.config'. No one package, when installed from tridex, do not make this directory. When I manually make 'mate' directory then stickynotes applet work fine and it can save all notes to file. This applet can make new file to save notes, but it can't make directory to store this file.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dockbarx

then run alt+f2 and dockx or add it to ur startup applications

and dockbar conf should look like that

ofc remove the regurar window lists from the bottom panel.

if you have default linux mint mate panel(which is in the bottom with all the stuff). then it wont work tho
or perhaps then u should try placing the dockbarx to the center and removing the windowlist from mate-panel.

Try removing mint-menu from the panel, and then re-adding it.

Also, to get the bootup and shutdown screens to show, you'll need to install plymouth. Try "sudo apt-get install plymouth plymouth-theme-mint-logo plymouth-theme-mint-text" . This was taken out of Mint 12, due to some problems with Nvidia cards.

Tried removing and re-adding mintmenu a few times, didn't help. I also tried leaving it there after the error and killing the mate panel, also didn't fix it.

I use an nvidia card, so perhaps I'll just deal with the lack of plymouth :p

I have an nvidia card with Plymouth, and it works fine. I may have had to add a line to my /etc/default/grub . I don't remember.

*edit* I do have GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset" in my /etc/default/grub, which I believe I put there to fix the plymouth issue.

add new panel to the botton (right click to upper panel and take "new panel")
also remove window listst from upper panel cuz u have dockbarx on the bottom for that.
and transparent dockbar might not work without compiz.

ok dockbar applet for mate works also get the lates dockbarx source from here:
https://launchpad.net/~nilarimogard/+ar ... er=oneiric
use the mate migrate script (http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/doku.php/migrating)
and follow the readme in the dockbarx source.
works fine.

Hello.
I have a problem in LibreOffice. It can't use system open/save dialogs and use itself dialogs.
Can this problem be related to MATE? Or this is not related?

One minor thing I've noticed that the little pop-up notification box (ex: telling you you've connected/disconnected to wifi) is a solid colour on MATE, rather than translucent like in GNOME 2. And when I hover my mouse over it the box just disappears rather than fades. Is it supposed to be like that or do I have some graphics settings wrong on my computer. As I say, it's minor, but it doesn't look as good this way.

1. download https://launchpad.net/~nilarimogard/+ar ... rig.tar.gz
2. extract it
3. cd /location/to/youtr/extracted/dockbarxfolder
4. copy http://wiki.mate-desktop.org/migrating
5. open the script and change the pkgdir=src to pkgdir=.
6.copy it to the extracted dockbarx folder
7.go back to your terminal where u cd ur docbarxfolder
8.run executable for migrate.sh
$ chmod +x ./migrate.sh

9.run migrate script
$ ./migrate.sh

10. Install zeitgeist, python-wnck, python-imaging, python-keybinder, python-xlib and python-numpy (DockbarX might be able to run without python-numpy, but it shouldn't hurt to install it).
$ sudo apt-get install python-imaging python-wnck python-keybinder python-numpy python-xlib zeitgeist

11.run the setup.py install
$ sudo ./setup.py install

12. Add DockBarX applet to panel (kill mate-panel first if necessary)

I check the LibreOffice. In Gnome it use system open/save dialogs, but in Mate it can't use system dialogs.
I see this bug related to Mate. Please help to correct this bug. Thanks for help.

I have latest Mate from tridex and LibreOffice from Oneiric.
Yes, LibreOffice can open/save, but it can't use system dialogs. Because it can't, it use its own open/save dialog (like on your screenshot). This dialogs are very poor and inconvenient for me. I want use Gnome-like dialogs. Gnome dialogs much better. In all other programs normal dialogs are used. For example Pluma text editor use system (Gnome-like) open/save dialogs. When I relogin to Gnome then LibreOffice use system (Gnome) dialogs, but in Mate it can't use system dialogs and use its own dialogs.

sorry for posting it here...at first I thought maybe it had something to do with MATE. Thanks.
