Thanks! mate settings daemon 1.0.0-1 is what shows up in synaptic package manager even with the tridex repo enabled for some reason. I'm set for wheezy, is there a sid repo I should be using?

Try adding the tridex repo before packages.linuxmint.com in /etc/apt/sources.list.

Yeah...see, the problem is that this version of Mate still has the issue with certain themes causing your CPU to get pounded. On some themes it works fine, but on others my CPU utilizations jumps through the roof.

I know that the Mint version had a fix for this that cleared it up; something to do with how something was packaged, or what a particular something was packaged with. I can't remember the details off hand. Does anyone know where I might get this fix from? Is there a way to get the updated version of Mate that Mint offers?

I think that usually happens when you have another package manager open and/or running. Were you currently or previously installing another package?

Hi, i'm just trying to add the mate-power-manager but i can't get it to work (as my linux skills are very limited).
What i've done up to now:
My sources.list file looks like this

I already managed to install the keyring too. but when i try:

It doesnt work because there are missing dependencies [ i use the german mint version, i hope my translations are correct/meaningful]

it needs libmateconf, but that shouldn't get installed and mate-conf (>= 1.1.0) but 1.0.9-2 should get installed.
E: Problems can't get solved as i have broken packages.

What do i have to do next?
I only made changes to the file in etc/apt/.
I found the mate-power-manager at the Software Managment tool, but there is no way to open it, i just gets seleted in the list and nothing happens.

EDIT: After renaming the preferences file in etc/apt/ and a couple of apt-get updates/upgrades it works perfectly now.
I just didn't understand it when reading the Thread the first time

But still having problems with hibernate and standby as every time i tried it the screen goes black (sometimes with a cursor symbol) but won't turn off the screen. And as i think the whole process to hibernate/go into standby is stuck somewhere, i can't wake up the system either.

1.Open the Update Manager
2. Click on “Edit”->”Software Sources”
3. Enable “Unstable packages (Romeo)”
4. Click on “Close”
5. Click on “Refresh”
6.Sort the list of updates by version number
7. Apply all updates which version is “2.24.6-0ubuntu5linuxmint1″

If there's no updates to be seen it probably means the fix came out of 'Romeo' (unstable) and into the 'official' updates already. I only say that because I did a full reload of Linux Mint 12 yesterday and applied the official updates. After that I enabled "Romeo" under Software Sources and no further updates were seen so it seems the "fix" went official.

I'm not running Mint on this particular laptop, so Romeo does not show up as an option. As I understand it, Romeo is a part of the Mint repository, so if I enable it and use it I am likely going to have to reinstall the system again since using the Mint repository creates havoc on this particular system.

I enabled the Tridex repository and downloaded the latest from there, but it seems to still have the bug with the themes and cpu utilization. It seems I'll need to wait awhile before using Mate on this particular computer. Until then my main Mint computer is working beautifully with Mate.

It's not the official way, but if you just can't get power management to work in MATE, you can install xfce4-power-manager in MATE, add it to your startup menu and the battery icon will appear in you panel. You can right click on it and configure power management. Alternately you can install xscreensaver and change settings using it. I did the latter on my desktop and the former on my netbook.

It seems that Nautilus Elementary will not be available any longer for Gnome 3.x
I didn't check Marlin yet, but I'd love to have this feature "out of the box" in Mate, and not have to install other file browser after installation of the system.

I implemented the undo/redo feature (it's already in github source). Just a few testing before packaging (it will go in caja 1.1.1).
