How to change the menu icon in MATE?

Does anyone know how to change the menu icon in MATE? I tried the mateconf-editor under panels but that doesn't seem to work.

mint menu? ..right click -> preferences and change the Button icon:

for normal menus i think you have to change the start.png of your installed theme.

thanks. not mint menu but I think you may be right about the start.png although I don't know where to change it for each icon theme.

i think its either in $HOME/.icons
or in /usr/share/icons

and then separate folders for each icon theme

If you clicked the Mate icon then you have Gnome Classic and should be able to change panel,
install new icon sets etc. Mint 12 is Ubuntu11.10 so you can follow the examples of this blog,
skip the part about unity
